What is Kanna - Sceletium Tortuosum?
Kanna (Sceletium Tortuosum) is a psychoactive plant native to South Africa. It is a psychoactive plant because it contains psychoactive alkaloids such as mesembrine, mesembrenone, mesembrenol, mesembranol, and tortuosamine.
Sceletium Tortuosum Origin
Sceletium Tortuosum, better known as Kanna and also as Channa, Kougoed, or Kauwgoed, has been used by pastoralists and hunter-gatherers native to South Africa for over centuries. The first documentation of the plant dates back to 1662, written by the Dutch navigator and colonial administrator Jan van Riebeeck from when he established the trade routes for the VOC. Fortunately, today we no longer have to travel to South-Africa to buy Kanna, we just have to click a few buttons.
What are the effects of Kanna?
Most people report a slightly energizing effect at first, however after a while you become very calm and relaxed. In small doses, Kanna is somewhat analogous to cocaine and in high doses, it can be compared to alcohol. And it is of course safer than either.
In high doses, you will experience a very euphoric/relaxing effect, not a hallucinogenic effect.
Additionally, Kanna has a social stimulant effect, it can lift your overall mood and it can reduce anxiety, stress, and tension.
What is the difference between Kanna and Kanna extract?
The difference between Kanna and Kanna extract is quite simple. Normal Kanna contains about 1 – 1.5% alkaloids, so in this case, we can say that a Kanna 10x extract contains about 10 – 15% alkaloids and a 40x extract may contain 40 – 60% alkaloids.
How to consume Kanna?
Kanna can be used in a variety of ways, such as it can be snorted, you can brew tea from it or use Kanna Honey in your tea, wrap gum with it, swallow it in a gel capsule, put it under your tongue as a tincture, use it sublingually or as a snuff.
And if you’re not into that don’t worry there’s a Kanna Vape Extract out there the Kanna UB40 extract, its potent extract that hits hard.
